Criminal proceedings launched against Fifa president
Swiss prosecutor has launched legal proceedings against Fifa president Gianni Infantino.
This comes in after prosecutor Stefan Keller, who was appointed to review complaints against Infantino and the Swiss Attorney General Michael Laubner, said he had found indications of possible criminal conduct related to undisclosed meetings, breach of official secrecy, assisting offenders and the likes .
Lauber last week offered to resign after a court said he covered up the meeting and lied to supervisors during an investigation by his office into corruption surrounding Fifa.
Through Fifa, based in Zurich Germany, Infantino said in a statement: “As president of Fifa, it has been my aim from day one, and it remains my aim, to assist the authorities with investigating past wrong doings at Fifa. Fifa officials have met with prosecutors in other jurisdictions across the world for exactly these purposes.”.
Both Infantino and Lauber have previously denied accusations.
