According to Luke Oweyesigire, Deputy Police Spokesperson in the Metropolitan Area, Douglas Kaweesi 28, a resident of Kazinga Abaita ababiri, asked his 10 year-old nephew to escort him to the lake shores for swimming. Douglas was however overpowered by the strong waves and drowned.
“His nephew returned home after a long wait and informed his father, identified as Martin. A serious search was conducted the following day at kitubulu, with the help of the local fishermen and the body of the victim retrieved.” Luke said
Police is so investigating to establish the culprits behind the opening of the beach, since it is a restricted area under the Ministry of Health guidelines on COVID-19. This includes the area territorial commanders who happen to have exhibited unprofessional behavior.”
He further warned the public to keep away from all beaches as they are still restricted.
