At least thirteen NRM parliamentarians have officially expressed interest in the position of the speaker of the 11th Parliament replacing the late Rt. Hon Jacob Oulanyah who died on Sunday 20, in Seattle USA .

The current Deputy Speaker Anita Among first expressed her interest for the seat through her Personal Assistant Mary Athieno. Anita did not show up at the NRM Secretariat citing health reasons.
Other candidates that have joined Anita in the race include; Deputy Attorney General Jackson Kafuuzi, Former State Minister of health and Toror Woman MP Sarah Opendi who expressed her interest through David Mujulizi, Arua Central parliamentarian Jackson Atima, Dokolo South County legislator Okot Ogong, Lwemiyaga County House MP Theodre Ssekikubo, MP Jacob Oboth-Oboth of West Budama South who also resigned from his role as State Minister of Defense, Kagoma North Legislator Alex Kintu Brandon, The state Minister for Sports Denis Hanson Obua, Health Minister Jane Ruth Aceng, MP Florence Akiiki of Masindi District, John Okot Amos and Bugahya County MP Pius Wakabi.
From the opposition, FDC’s Ssemuju Nganda and Asumani Basalirwa have so far openly showed interest while NUP’s Shamim Malende is still waiting for a go head from her Political Party.
