In a bid to prevent the spread of covid-19, the Ministry of Education and Sports has asked parents to resist the urge of visiting their boarding school children until further notice.
Denis Mugimba told journalists at the Uganda Media Center on Wednesday that visiting children at their schools, puts their lives at risk yet they opted for the boarding institutions as safe places for their children.
“Visiting days usually works for learners who are boarding facilities. The boarding institution is seen like a safe space so continuously bringing in people from outside and interacting with learners who are in a protected bubble is a risk factor. So, as per our guidelines, their is still a hold on visiting days. When that hold is lifted, the schools and public shall be informed,” He said
The ministry has instead permitted schools to have their sports and games while activities provided they observe the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) that are supposed to be observed within the sports setting.
