The Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago has directed that all Arcades and shopping Malls be opened unconditionally within two days so that inspection is done subsequent to opening.
According to the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) team, the inspecting team has turned the exercise into cash Bonanza extorting money from Arcade owners and Traders before clearing their operation.
During the KCCA Authority meeting that sat on Wednesday, The Kampala Lord Mayor said: “We want to deal with these individuals on inspection team who extort money from traders and Arcade owners before clearing their operation, we have also tasked the relevant committee of the council to probe those team in inspection and bring culprit to book” Lukwago said noted
The council also resolved to extend the KCCA Covid-19 budget by procuring 10 stare of the art modern Ambulances for nine (9) Kampala constituencies.
It should be noted that KCCA had missed out on supplementary budget of 600bn covid funds and they had to mount pressure to ensure they get funds, however the minister of Finance has cleared them to allocate the un utilized fund of 4bn which was supposed to be returned to the consolidated funds to utilize it in fight against COVID19.
“As council we have allocated substantial sum of it to buy 10 modern Ambulances that can serve the people of Kampala.
We are to allocate some to buy personal protective equipment for our Frontline healthy workers and also paying hardship/risk allowances to them. We also want to buy modern Mobile laboratories to do the testing in communities and also vaccination campaign” Lukwago emphasized
Yesterday’s Council also halted the contracts given to solid waste companies without sanctioning of the authority. Lukwago said that the members of the public outcry the poor performance of these concessionaires and the council to revisit the process and set new standard.
