Following the premature end of the 2020/21 Star Times Uganda Premier League due to the prevailing COVID-19 second wave situation, Express FC has officially received the trophy as the Champions of the League.

The Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) President Moses Magogo crowned the Red Eagles at a scientific event at the Star-Times offices via Soliz House in Nakasero on Tuesday morning.
At this scientific event, Express FC was represented by Ssuubi Kiwanuka, who represented the club chairman Kiryowa Kiwanuka, head coach Wasswa Bbossa, Club CEO Isaac Mwesigwa, and goalkeeper Mathias Muwanga represented the team. Express FC head coach Wasswa Bbossa said that though it was a tough season, they (Express) are delighted by their hard work that enabled them considered winners of the trophy.

Bbossa revealed that he has been working for this title for the last four years he has been managing clubs in the Uganda Premier League. He dedicated the trophy to the late Abdu Kinobe, who is known as the lifetime chairman of Express FC.
Ssuubi Kiwanuka who represented Express FC chairman Kiryowa Kiwanuka said the victory means Express FC is back to its winning ways. He also said the team is well prepared for continental football.
“At the beginning of the season, we warned the opponents and many took us for granted. We shall dominate for years. There is a lot that is being cooked,” he said.
Express FC goal keeper Mathias Muwanga who won the award of the best goalkeeper said that he is happy for the award.
FUFA President Moses Magogo congratulated the Red Eagles for the well-deserved victory and applauded the leadership of the club for using the right means to win the silverware.
The decision to crown the Ugandan Eagles champions following the suspension of the league is in line with Article 18, Section 1, sub-section C & D of the FUFA Competition rules, which allow the federation to determine the champions once the league is suspended after completing 75 percent of the matches.
By the time of the suspension, Express FC was on top of the table with 58 points followed by URA in the second position with 57 and Vipers FC in the third position with 56 points. Consequently, Express FC had to be declared champions.
The Red Eagles will now take part in the CAF Champions league as Uganda’s representatives.
