Four pedestrians have been confirmed dead and one injured after getting knocked by a lorry today (Friday) along Jinja-Kampala highway in Buikwe district.

Ms Helen Butoto, the Ssezibwa Regional Police spokesperson has identified the deceased as Faith Akumu 23, Rose Anyango 14, Promise Awori 1yr and 8months, also a daughter of the late Faith Akumu and Kimono Shamila aged 3.
The injured has been identified as Ojara Eric aged 8yrs and all are residents of Najjembe Division in Buikwe district.
The accident involved a Tata lorry registration number UAX 660C and commuter taxi.
“The lorry which was moving from Jinja towards Kampala tried to dodge a head-on collusion with a taxi which was overtaking. However, it knocked five pedestrians in the process, killing four on spot, and seriously injured one,” Helen revealed
The bodies have been transferred to Kawolo Hospital mortuary for postmortem examination while the hunt for the driver of the Tata lorry who fled from the scene of the accident is on.
