One of the greatest things lagging Uganda behind, and Africa at large is because natives have failed to change their mindsets.

According to the state Minister of Gender and Culture, Peace Mutuuzo, a positive mindset improves people’s wellbeing by changing their attitude, norms, practices and behaviors building communities, capacities to assess their needs, identify options and addressing them, prioritise leverage resources and also creates sustainable solutions.
During the launch of the Fourth Heritage Initiative at the Uganda national Cultural Centre (UNCC) last week, Minister Mutuuzo advised Ugandans to do self-evaluation, discover who they are and start nurturing themselves in order to live a purposeful life.
She revealed that the initiative is in-line with the government program namely; the human capital development and community mobilization mindset change under the National development plan 3.
“I am also happy to note that this activity is not only targeting the local but the entire continent which also resonates with the government’s efforts in drumming up support for regional integration….Uganda is uniquely blessed that among the 6500 tribes in the world, Uganda has exactly 65 different tribes. Each one of us is uniquely brought up. When we combine all these advantages we are likely to get the best of the fortunes. the world,” she said
Adding, “the biggest advantage here in Uganda to begin with, is the heritage tourism, the cultural tourism. You will get the same lions from the rest of the world where you go and all that but what you will not find with others is the way we live.”
UK based Ugandan Author, Mr. Emmanuel Kirunda believes there is something within the African heritage that complicates people from solving their problems.
Through his books, ‘The Fourth Heritage and ‘Beyond the Fourth Heritage, he highlights that man has six self-defeating/ self-sabotaging six killer mindsets that are passed on from generation to generation.
“The Self-defeating, self sabotaging nature of our minds that we grow up with from the village/city whether you are educated or not as long as we are in this society prohibit man from achieving what he can potentially achieve,” he said
He listed the six killer mindsets as Victimhood, inferiority complex, self-hate, herd mentality, copycatism and elite dilemma which he said is the most backward and self-defeating mindset that affects the learned.
“We people who go to school fail to reconcile because the fact is the more educated and advanced we get in the modern world, the more we are cut off from our tribal traditional roots. We never become Europeans or English so we end up in the no man’s land without roots and there is no tree that can grow without roots, He said
