The kampala city Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago in accompany with his Executive Secretaries for Engineering, Technical services and Physical planning have early today done a site visit in Kisenyi where a building collapsed yesterday and claimed 6 lives with others still stuck in rubbles .
Addressing the media, Lukwago was shocked to find out that the owner of the building Mr Haruna Kigundu was not on sight and asked authorities to arrest him.
“We must bring them to book, They must be arrested, Haruna Kigundu, Engineers and kCCA supervisors for their recklessness. That is how we can fight this Impunity because buildings are collapsing day and night but no action is being taken”. Lordmayor said.
He also apologised on behalf of kCCA for the loopholes while issuing plans and promised to bridge the gap.
“It’s very unfortunately that we lost such lives in collapse of Covid19 buildings .
We are going to plug the loopholes we have been with in the system especially in processing and approving the plan since our minister For physical planning and Engineering will be sitting on that board that issue plans”. He said
Before this happened, the board had been comprised of only technical people and with the new amendment presented to the Lordmayor’s cabinet , they will have one representative sitting on that board.

Further more, he asked city mogul to use their money accordingly other than exploiting the environment.
It should be noted that city tycoons are using covid period especially in the time when bussiness are closed to erect building.
He promised to tract all building he termed as Covid19 and access their standard before any other catastrophe happens.
On 26th August a team of elected leaders sitting on physical planning committee led by Executive Secretary minister for Engineering, Technical services and Physical planning Hon Hakim kizza did a site visit where they inspected a building which collapsed and one person lost . The inspection team traversed others parts of Rubaga division where a number of building are erected without proper plan.
Affected people’s are builders , bodaboda riders, Tax drivers and others whose car were parked near the building .
