Kampala Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago has asked traders to work as a team to defeat those who are pushing them away from Kampala. He said this at the give away of his niece Shakira Nabukenya on February 19, in kawempe.
Lukwago appealed to traders to create comfort working places for vendors/Hawkers and argued that sending them away won’t solve the issue of trade order.
“Don’t join oppressors to send vendors/hawkers away from the city, they will turn against your back and send you out too. Vendors are not the problem, you shouldn’t celebrate because they are being removed off the street. They would wish to be in arcades, markets, in companies or having well off paid jobs but some officials in government sold off those companies and took off with their shares”. Lukwago said
He added that some officials in government need to be bridled so that they don’t embezzle government and people’s properties.
