Miss World 2021 organisers have on Thursday temporarily postponed the global broadcast finale just hours before the pageant was due to start.

that was to happen in Puerto Rico due to health and safety interest of contestants, staff, crew and the general public
The decision has been made by organisers after virologists and medical experts who were hired to oversee the the event held a discussion with the Puerto Rico Health Department and saw need to broadcast the finale at the Puerto Rico Coliseum Jose Miguel Agrelot in the the next 90 days. The decision was made for the safety interest of contestants, staff, crew and the general public.
“As of yesterday, additional safety measures were implemented in the best interest of the contestants, production team and spectators, understanding the event increased risks on the stage and in the dressing room. However, after additional positive cases were confirmed this morning after consulting with health officials and experts, the postponement decision was made.
The next step according to the medical experts is immediate quarantine, pending observation and further testing according to best practices in situations like this.” Reads part of the press statement released
According to a local media 17 people involved in the pageant had tested positive for Covid-19, though it was not clear how many participants were among those infected.
“We are very much looking forward to the return of our contestants, (who we have grown to know and love), to compete for the Miss World crown” said Julia Morley, CEO of Miss World Ltd. Puerto Rico offers a safe environment and a spectacular backdrop for filming the Miss World Festival!”
The contestants and staff are currently getting cleared by health officials and advisors so that they safety return to their home countries.
