Makidye West MP, Hon Allan Ssewanyana and Kawempe North Legislator Muhammad Ssegirinya have this evening been granted shs.20M Court bail by Masaka high court Justice Victoria Nakintu.
The release was through their lawyers Counsel Erias Lukwago, Counsel Abubakar Ssekanjako of Lukwago and company Advocated who applied for bail application couple of days ago.
The National Unity Platform (NUP) Legislators were remanded at Kiggo prison after being arraigned before Masaka high court and charged with 4 counts including murder and attempted murder which claimed many lives in machete killings in greater Masaka.
“We have to raise the 20 millions shillings for each mp and their after pay it in the bank to get the general receipt, there after we shall process the bail papers for execution by the registrar where we have been reffered to ICB Kampala…”. Counsel Erias Lukwago said.
The process of execution papers take some time since by the time Justice Victoria granted them bail, banks and offices had been closed.
“There isn’t much we can do as of now our hands are tied, very unfortunate they will have to spend another night on remand at kiggo.
However we are going to expedite the process from now so that by tomorrow morning, we will be done by papers and payment”. Their lawyer added .
Ssegirinya and Ssewanyana were first summoned to appear at Masaka police station to make statement on 6th September, day after on 17th September 2021 both were areigned before Masaka high court and remanded to kitalya prison for one week .
Later kitalya prison transferred them to kiggo prison.
