The National Resistance Movement(NRM) Electoral Commission,has unveiled a roadmap for the East African Legislative Assembly(EALA) election process ahead of the 2022 elections due in September.

Speaking to the media in Kampala, the party electoral commission chairperson, Dr. Fred Tanga Odoi called upon their members to express interest in the six positions allocated to the party.
He said for one to be eligible to contest for Member of Parliament to EALA on NRM ticket, one must be a Ugandan citizen and must be a member of the Party.
”one must be 18 years and above. Must have attained education of at least “A” Level OR its equivalent. Must not be a public servant. He or she must not be a member of the armed forces and must be a registered voter in the national Electoral Commission, “he said.
Tang said interested persons have until 30th June this year to submit their applications, adding that a cultural or traditional leader won’t be allowed to participate in the exercise.
“Any member who wishes to contest for the position of NRM flag bearer for member of parliament to the East African Legislative Assembly shall deliver a written expression of interest and updated Curriculum Vitae (CV) to the Chairperson, NRM Electoral Commission starting today Tuesday 28th June at 2:00pm to Thursday 30th June at 5:00pm.,” he said.
He said on Friday 1 July, 2022, the NRM electoral commission shall present names of the interested Candidates to the NRM central executive committee which, upon consideration, shall recommend names for election to the NRM parliamentary caucus.
“The NRM Electoral Commission shall appoint a date, time and place for nomination and election of the candidates, “he said.
Meanwhile, the National Unity Platform has also called upon it members who are qualified and willing to express interest in carrying the party flag for the position of member of parliament
These include; Soroti East Constituency in Soroti City, Gogonyo County Constituency in Pallisa District, Bukimbiri County Constituency in Kisoro District, Busongora County South in Kasese District.
According to Mercy Walukamba, the Chairperson NUP electoral commission committee, expressions of interest will be received from Wednesday June 29, 2022 at 9:00am to Monday 4th July, 2022 at 12:00 noon.
“All interested members are requested to submit written applications to the Party Secretariat in Kamwokya or send them by email. All candidates are required to attach a copy of the party membership card, national id, curriculum vitae & certified copies of academic qualifications,” guided Walukamba.
