Political and human rights activists are in shock after sudden news circulation of the demise of human rights activists counsel David Tebusweke Mayinja.
According to a close friend, the late had been battling with kidney complications for a while and when he got Covid19, his life battle became more complicated, he died today Saturday evening at 10pm.
David joined politics at an early age in 2001 while he was a student at Makerere University as a member of Young Democratic (UYD).
It was from then that he became a senior Democratic party member and also a consistent flag bearer for the party for the Mawokota North MP seat for five consecutive times. He struggled with elective politics for over 20 years even though he never came out victorious.
In 2001 and 2006 he contested as MP Mawokota a position he lost to NRM’s Peter Mutuluza, he came back in 2011 and 2016 and again lost to NRM’s Amelia kyambadde and In the last concluded elections, he lost to NUP’s flag bearer Hilary innocent Kiyaga aka. Dr. Hilderman.
Before starting his own law firm, Tebusweke worked with Lukwago & company Advocates from 2004-2007.
He gained popularity while defending the under previledged people from land grabbers.
Among the many challenges he faced in his law practicing career was when unknown assailants almost claimed his life on 30th-November-2019 after they poured acid on him together with his wife.
Until today, the culprits have never been brought to book.
