Film Producers have demanded that government set specific laws on film to boost the industry.

One of the producers, Kevin Johns Nabukenya, whose movie “The Wave” won the viewers Choice Award at the recently concluded Uganda Film Festival(UFF) that was held last Friday, urged the government to consider putting up film-related laws to streamline the industry.
“The government should come out and put up laws that govern the industry. All the laws that govern us are not directly connected to us. They are universal laws that every industry follows. We want our own laws that govern us. As a filmmaker who is studying law, I feel that this is what we need first.” She said.
This comes after one of the winners at the UFFs Patriq Nkakalukanyi, ranted about the poor pay and welfare of the filmmakers.
Kevin Johns is a law scholar at Kampala International University (KIU) and is tipped to finish her course soon. She joined the film industry during the era of COVID-19.
