Kanungu Grade I Magistrates on thursday charged and remanded 6 teachers from Kanungu District over Forgery and Uttering False Documents.

The six, all civil servants of Kanungu District Local Government are accused of forging official documents. It s alleged that they have been acting as employees of the ministry of education and sports for between ten and twenty years.
Prosecution told court that was presided over by the Kanungu Grade I Magistrate Athanasius Mukobi that Grace Zawedde 44 an assistant instructor at Nyakatare technical institute in the department of agriculture , Alfred Mwesigye 53, a teacher at Kambuga senior secondary school, Felix Okori 39 an assistant instructor at Nyakatare technical institute in the department of building and construction , Samson Kiseka 30 teacher at Kihihi high school, Fred Ssenkayi 32 an instructor at Nyakatare technical institute in the department of agriculture and Happiness Byaruhanga 41 a school bursar of Nyamirama seed school while in Kanungu District allegedly forged appointment letters and posting instructions purportedly signed from Ministry of Education and Sport and Education Service Commission.
The suspects are also accused of forging appointment letters and writing letters on behalf of the Ministry of Education and Sports to school heads. The six were arrested last Friday and detained at Kanungu police station on orders of the Chief Administrative Officer and the State House Anti-Corruption Unit.
Court was told that the accused have been using the forged documents to teach in Government of Uganda aided institutions like, Nyakatare Technical Institute , Bishop Comboni College and Kihihi High School .
In total, they have caused Government a loss of UGX500m in salaries and allowances paid to them.
They all pleaded not guilty to the charges and through their lawyers asked for bail but the magistrate then remanded to Kanungu Central Prison till November 17th 2022 when the case will come up for mention and ruling on their bail application.
