The President for National Unity Platform (NUP), Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu has said that Legislators Allan Ssewanyana and Muhammad Ssegirinya of Makindye West and Kawempe North respectively, went through re-arrests and torture because they are from his party.

Kyagulanyi made the remarks on Monday after him together with Hon. Joel Ssenyonyi and David Lewis Rubongoya payed a visit to the detained MPs at Kigo Government Prison.
“To date, the state has not clearly indicated what evidence they have against these comrades, which shows that it is nothing like a prosecution but, rather, a persecution. Even when they were given bail, the two MPs were re-arrested on Dictator Musevi’s orders,” He said
“We know that they are doing this to try to implicate NUP in various crimes that are clearly orchestrated by the regime itself. We continue to demand for their release and to condemn their continued illegal detention.” Kyagulanyi added.
The former presidential candidate also confirmed that Ssegirinya and Ssewanyana are sickly and frail.
“Hon. Ssegirinya’s foot is in a very bad state after he was violently arrested and beaten up by security operatives moving in a drone. The two Members of Parliament told us how they were mistreated and tortured by operatives before they were once again remanded to Kigo.”
On Friday last week, Kawempe North MP Muhammad Ssegirinya showed court his rotting feet as he appeared before Buganda Road Court. According to Ssegirinya, the feet injuries were a result of continued torture while in prison.
During the NUP officials visit at Kigo, Ssegirinya revealed that he doesn’t know what they did to him because they beat him so bad that he blacked out. On Gaining consciousness, he was sick from the foot and it is affecting the second foot.
