At least twelve people have been confirmed dead following a fatal road accident that occured in Sunday in Amuria district, eastern Uganda.

According to traffic police Spokesperson Faridah Nampiima, the accident occurred at around 02:42 PM when a Fuso motor vehicle of Reg. No UBA 670V that was carrying market vendors lost control and veered off the main road killing 12 people on the spot.
“The territorial traffic police at Amuria Central Police Station yesterday (Sunday) registered a single fatal accident at about 0242hrs at Alomayin swamp along Alakaituk-Amuria road in Amuria district,” she said
Adding, “A motor vehicle registration number UBA 670V Fuso was carrying market vendors when it lost control and overturned, killing 12 passengers on spot while 6 were rushed to Soroti Regional Referral Hospital.”
Police has however said that the cause of the accident is yet to be established and cautioned lorry drivers to stop carrying passengers on lorries as it is illegal.
