Police in Mbale is investigating circumstances under which eight people died on spot in two successive accidents that happened on Mbale-Tororo High-Way on Tuesday and Wednesday this week.

The first accident occured on Tuesday when the driver of Fuzo reg. number UAQ 094W who was driving in terrible speed, lost control, swayed to the right and hit two Motorcyclists who were parking at their stage, two pedestrians and a double cabin number UBE 669Q.
The double cabin also knocked two people dead who were sited at the road side near Hass petrol station and the driver took off.
On the same road on Wednesday, another accident occured at Mile Six, still on Mbale-Tororo highway when a Fuel Truck reg. number 491AA07 clashed a Toyota Prado reg. number UAB 207J, killing four and leaving 15 injured.
According to the eyewitness, The Fuel Truck which was heading to Mbale city lost control and crushed into the pedestrians lane knocking the prado before crushing into the nearby home.
The dead include; one occupant of the prado, mobile money agent and two pedestrians.
Rogers Taitika, the Elgon Region Police spokesperson confirmed the incidences.
“The accident killed our people a young girl called Patience aged 16 years who was sited at the mobile money of her mother and three others. The dead bodies were taken to Mbale City Mortuary for postmortem and others who got serious injuries were rushed to Mbale regional hospital for treatment,” he said.
